I was sitting at the new World War II Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C. the day before it officially opened (Memorial Day - May 2004) when a melody arrived fully formed in my head. You often hear artists say they're just a conduit for inspiration, and it was certainly true for me that day. All I had to do was 'write it down.'

In this piece, I break new ground in thematic development - spinning out related phrases instead of my usual episodic procedure.

The music captures the spirit everyone feels in prevailing when their cause is just.
